What is SolidChamfer?

Solid Chamfer is a technique, in which edges are beveled to create fillets on polygonal objects.

How to use Solid Chamfer

Creating a SolidChamfer using the Bevel tool

The usage of Solid Chamfer is quite simple. Select the edges to be beveled, press "M" then "S" (or select "Bevel" from the "Structure"-Menue), enter "Inner Offset", "Subdivision" and "Type" and apply. "Inner Offset" sets how large your fillet will become. "Subdivision" sets the divisions for the fillet. "Type" sets the type the fillet will look like.

  - Linear - sets the fillet straightly
  - Convex - sets the fillet to chamfer outwards (Subdivisions must be larger than 0)
  - Concave - sets the fillet to chamfer inwards (Subdivisions must be larger than 0)
  - Bezier - sets the fillet to chamfer outwards with bezier-interpolation
(Subdivisions must be larger than 0)
  - User - sets the fillet to userdefined chamfer,
editible with the path-spline beneath the Type-drop-down-field

Creating a SolidChamfer using the Knife tool

This method is the better choice when modelling with HyperNURBS.

Use the knife tool in Loop mode to create an extra subdivision an either side of the edge you want to bevel.

What are the advantages of Solid Chamfer?

Solid Chamfer allows to chamfer different edges of a more complex model with different values und enhances modeling in an easy way.

Ideally, the advantage is a smooth mesh with only quad polygons. Bevels should be easy to control by as few vertices as possible. The main application of SolidChamfer is - of course - modelling without HyperNURBS.
