Pic 1:Example for WedgeExtrude

WedgeExtrude is a free plug-in written by David Wickenden. You can use it for extruding polygons around the axis of selected points. You can take control of the subdividing and the angle of the extrusion. It works similar to the Maxtix-Extrude Tool

Workflow

Pic 2: Selected Polygons, which will be extruded
Pic 3: WedgeExtrude-Menue
Pic 4: Objekt after the extrusion

First you have to convert the object into a poly-mesh (use the "c" key). Now, you select the polygons which you want to extrude (Pic 2) and shift from "Use Polygon Tool" to "Use Point Tool" and select 2 points of the selected polygons. Be sure that those 2 points are next to each other, cause this will be the rotating axis for the extrusion. Select the plug-in from the menue and you will get the dialog (Pic 3).

Here you can select the subdividing and the angle for the extrusion. With a higher amout of subdividing you will get a smoother angle, cause WedgeExtrude can use more polygons for doing the rotation. The angle defines the rotation for the selected poygons. You can see the result on pic 4.

After an extrusion you can change the rotation axis, which is defined by the 2 selected points. You can redefine them and extrude your mesh into another direction.

Version

The latest version is WedgeExtrude 1.1 and will work without any problems on Cinema 4D V 9.5 or later.

Weblinks

Unfortunatelly you can get the plug-in only on the CG-Talk website. You have to create an account for downloading it, but it is worthy.
